However, there will be no transition without transmission. In order to enable the integration of vast amounts of renewable electrons and molecules into our energy system, we need to meaningfully expand investments in the grid infrastructure. By 2050, cumulative grid investments on the electric side are expected to total USD 20-30 trillion while hydrogen enabled pipeline infrastructure will total another USD 1 trillion. In response to this unprecedented investment need, we are launching a new fund strategy and are looking for people to help us make bring capital to into attractive and necessary grid investments.

The new fund, CI Regulated Energy Grids, will invest in regulated transmission and distribution grids. We are looking for a Vice President to join the investment team based in the Copenhagen office.

Investment team – CI Regulated Energy Grids (“CI REG”)

CI REG will focus on equity investments at both asset- and corporate-level in regulated transmission and distribution networks, including electric and hydrogen grids, in OECD countries.

Joining the investment team, your responsibilities will include identifying, evaluating and executing on investments enabling the expansion of regulated electric networks so critically needed to ensure a successful energy transition. You will work together with a lean, diverse and highly experienced team of initially ~5 people in a high-pace dynamic, entrepreneurial and international environment.

The Position

Based in Copenhagen with a primary focus on Western Europe you will be an integral member of the close-knit investment team that works across geographies. The office language is English.

You will play an integral role in the execution of new acquisitions, financings and follow-on optimizations. With the support of the Senior Leadership team, you will oversee the structuring, valuation, due diligence, financing and coordinate relationships with external partners and advisors.

You will play an essential role in deal sourcing and will develop an in-depth understanding of target sectors and markets and assist in building relationships with key industry stakeholders.

Finally, you will be a key member of an international and dynamic team focused on making projects happen and enabling the transition to net zero. You will help manage, train and develop the junior team members, and will contribute to the positive, professional and collegiate working environment.

The Candidate

The work environment at CIP is fast paced, stimulating, global and demanding. We are therefore looking for a self-driven, collaborative, and analytical professional holding a relevant master’s degree within Economics, Finance, Business, or other related fields. We expect you to have a minimum of eight to twelve years of professional experience, preferably within the regulated energy infrastructure space. This experience may have been gained at another infrastructure investor, a utility company or as an advisor to the latter.

Key qualifications include:

  • Keen interest in / past experience of investing in the regulated energy space
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills and very strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English
  • Strong commercial mindset and solid understanding of the value drivers and risks of investments in the energy infrastructure space, preferably the regulated energy infrastructure space
  • Solid corporate finance knowledge, particularly in terms of mastering valuation and financial modelling
  • Solid people management skills, positive attitude and ability to work well on a team
  • Ability to synthesize information and prepare coherent and thoughtful presentation materials for internal and external stakeholders
  • Familiarity with transaction documentation and agreements
  • Experience in bringing investment opportunities to corporate decision-making bodies such as investment committees and boards of directors
